Fabindia has been a household name in India since 1960, originally built around ethical sourcing and artisan employment. Their home decor range, launched more seriously in the 2000s, follows the same philosophy — working with craft clusters across Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh to produce block-printed textiles, handwoven rugs, and traditional pottery.

We ordered directly from their website and visited their store in Delhi's Khan Market to compare in-store experience. Our test purchase totalled ₹14,800 across 11 products.

Textile Range — Cushions & Curtains

This is where Fabindia genuinely earns its reputation. The block-print cushion covers we tested (₹650–₹950 each) are thick, tightly woven, and feel noticeably more substantial than similarly priced options on Myntra or Amazon. After 6 machine washes at 30°C, the colours remained vibrant and the stitching held without fraying.

The curtains are a mixed story. The sheer cotton voile range is excellent — the fabric drapes beautifully and the hand-stitched hem adds a tailored finish. The heavier cotton-blend curtains, however, are stiff out of the pack and require several washes to soften. Not a dealbreaker, but worth knowing.

Table Linen & Kitchen Range

The table linen range is quietly one of the best things Fabindia sells for the home. Their kantha-stitch table runners and napkin sets are made with the same cotton quality as the cushion range, and the embroidery detail is genuinely hand-done — you can see the slight variations that come with human work, which adds character rather than detracting from it.

Decorative Objects — Where to Be Cautious

Fabindia's decorative accessories — ceramic vases, brass figurines, scented candles — are where we'd urge caution. The ceramic work is attractive and the forms are tasteful, but the finishing quality is inconsistent. We received two vases from the same listing and one had a hairline crack near the base that wasn't visible in product photos.

The candles are the weakest part of the range. At ₹595 for a 100g soy wax candle, we expected clean, even burning — but both candles we tested tunnelled within the first 2 hours, leaving wax walls on the sides and a shortened burn life. At this price point, you'd be better served by local artisan candle brands.

Is Fabindia Worth It? Our Honest Take

Fabindia occupies an interesting space — it's not a budget brand, but it's not luxury either. At its best, it offers genuinely crafted Indian textiles at prices that reflect the work involved without being exploitative. At its worst, it charges premium rates for items that don't justify the tag.

Our recommendation: stick to their textile range — cushion covers, curtains, table linen, and rugs. These represent clear value and quality. Approach the decorative objects and candles with more scrutiny, or buy them in-store where you can inspect them firsthand.

If you're furnishing a home and want pieces with genuine Indian craft heritage rather than mass-produced Scandinavian imitations, Fabindia remains one of the better options available in India today.
